Even though this winter has been unusually warm, there are still things we can do to decrease our heating costs. Here are some ideas:
- Make an appointment with a professional to replace air filters, seal ducts, and tune up your furnace or boiler.
- Check the insulation in your home.
- If you have a working fireplace or wood stove, it’s time to get them cleaned and inspected.
- Contact your utility company and order a home energy audit.
Do you feel a cold draft near your windows and doors? Here are a few suggestions:
- For the long term investment, research and budget costs for replacing your windows.
- Check out insulated curtains for your windows.
- Put a nice door sweep at the bottom of your door.
- Make or purchase a draft blocker (also called window or door snake) to cut down on the cold air. Curious how to make one? Try these directions, courtesy of TLC’s How Stuff Works.
